Hitachi Sets New Standard for Native 4K UHD Picture Quality

Published 5/15/2022

Following a two-year hiatus prompted by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the annual NAB Show resumed—in Las Vegas from April 24-27, 2022—with broadcast industry professionals attending in-person in strong numbers. At this year’s show, we unveiled and demonstrated our latest SK-UHD7000 native 4K Ultra HD broadcast and live production camera system.

The camera system garnered positive response, including being named “One of the Top 5 Products of NAB 2022” by Church Production Magazine, which focuses on the unique media production needs of the house-of-worship market. Speaking about the SK-UHD7000—which was the top professional broadcast system camera to make the list—the publication’s editor-in-chief and publisher, Brian Blackmore, said, “We can attest that the images are stunning" and that it was designed for UHD and HDTV program production.

In fact, this professional broadcast system camera was designed for anyone looking to future-proof their live broadcast and streaming production capabilities with exceptional native 4K video quality imagery.

As a 2nd-generation 4K UHD camera system, the SK-UHD7000 benefits by employing the latest industry technology, including three 2/3” global shutter CMOS image sensors with native 4K resolution. The new prism design, which enables full-range BT.2020 UHD Wide Color Gamut (WCG) capture, offers an expanded spectral range that fully complies with international colorimetry specifications. The camera’s dual 4K/HD workflow supports separate controls for High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Standard Dynamic Range (SDR). Shooting in native 4K resolution with HDR ensures evergreen video content.

We’re particularly proud of the camera system’s signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)—conservatively estimated at >62dB—a level that produces ultra-quiet (low noise) images. The SNR is an industry standard calculation that compares the video signal to the background noise level. A SNR value of >62 dB (decibels) is an outstanding rating for today’s professional 4K video camera systems.

Along with advanced digital processing, the SK-UHD7000 offers exceptional visual quality and superior price-performance value.
